Accessibility Statement
We want everyone — including people who use screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, or assistive technology — to be able to reach us for help. This page describes what we've done, what we're still working on, and how to reach us if something doesn't work.
Our goal
Accident Victim Assistance is committed to meeting Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA across avahelp.org and truck.avahelp.org.
What we've done
- Every page is fully navigable by keyboard alone
- Text has a minimum 4.5:1 contrast ratio against its background
- A "Skip to main content" link is the first focusable element on every page
- All interactive elements have visible focus indicators
- Forms use semantic
<label>elements linked to their inputs - Bilingual toggles preserve focus and announce the language change to screen readers
- Both phone numbers are marked up as
tel:links for assistive-technology dialing
What we are still working on
Accessibility is ongoing. Areas we're actively improving:
- Adding descriptive alt text to every photo and illustration on the site
- Expanding closed captions and transcripts for our video content
- Reviewing screen-reader announcements for the multi-language toggle
- Simplifying our longer application forms into shorter, more accessible steps
Assistive-technology testing
We test the site with:
- VoiceOver on macOS and iOS
- NVDA on Windows
- Keyboard-only navigation (no mouse)
- Browser zoom up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
- Reduced-motion preferences (we respect
prefers-reduced-motion)
